Foundation Coding Class for Kids
with MIT App Inventor

This programming class for kids is designed to introduce them the concept of programming and leads them to develop mobile application using MIT App Inventor. App Inventor for Android is an open-source web application originally provided by Google and now maintained by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Course Structure

16 session x 2 hours Recommeded age 9-15

This is a progressive course to help kids master the core concepts of programming. During each lesson, students will be introduced a programming concept and work on multiple programming puzzles created by us specifically based on their learning capability. They will build algorithms to solve questions on our coding platform. Following up with that, they will apply what they learnt to build mobile applications.

Learning Outcomes

In 16 sessions, students will learn the core concepts in programming such as variable, conditionals, iteration, function and etc using block based programming Blockly. These concepts are applicable across all programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java and C. With this skills, students can easily move from block based programming to text based programming. More importantly, students apply what they learn to create mobile applications. This give them the capability to become creators instead of consumers.

What You Will Need

  • Laptop computer
  • An Android device
  • A Gmail account (Optional)

Learn by hands on building mobile applications

Throughout our program, students will build 6 mobile applications using all the programming concepts they learnt. For final project, we will seek for collaboration with companies to give a topic for our students to work on. They will have a taste of what is it like to work on real life problems with the skills they aquired and how to tackle a problem looking from many different aspects.
